Canadian Blood Services is aware of the issues identified by Health Canada at the Canadian Cord Blood bioRepository in Edmonton, Alberta. Canadian Blood Services is not affiliated with the Canadian Cord Blood bioRepository, a private cord blood bank.

Canadian Blood Services operates a public cord blood bank. The cord blood units collected from consenting birth mothers are processed and distributed by Canadian Blood Services. These units are then available to any patient in need of a stem cell transplant within Canada and internationally.

The Canadian Blood Services’ Cord Blood Bank meets high standards of quality and safety. It is a registered establishment with Health Canada and accredited by NetCord-Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB) which are internationally recognized accreditation bodies.
