Why give?

Be the vital link that keeps Canada’s Lifeline strong.
Every day, people in Canada undergo major surgeries, medical procedures, cancer treatments, and more. Your blood has separate components that can help in those situations in very specific and crucially important ways. And if you have a rare blood type, your donation ensures lifesaving blood is there for hard-to-match patients who need it right away.
Giving changes lives—yours included. Donating is a powerful, life-affirming experience that connects you to others in a profound way. Discover what you gain when you give.
Experience what you get when you give.
Donating blood helps Visaree turn feelings of helplessness into meaningful action. Her story captures how giving isn’t just about saving others—it’s also about finding purpose and creating positive change within yourself.
You’re special. And so is your blood.
Everyone has a blood type. Some—like O-positive and A-positive—are the most common blood types in Canada, and highly needed. So is blood from donors with similar ethnic backgrounds or ancestry to patients with certain complex needs. Equally important are rarer blood types shared by just a few individuals, or blood types that are best suited for plasma donation.
Every individual has something unique to offer to patients in Canada. Your blood type, antigens, and ethnicity play a vital role in matching patients with compatible donations. We want to help every donor find their most meaningful way to contribute to Canada's Lifeline.
