“Volunteering with Canadian Blood Services makes me feel good because I know I’m doing something important,” says Stephen Gregg.

A longtime blood donor who’s completed more than 150 donations, Stephen is also a professional photographer who’s started to think about retirement. He began to volunteer with Canadian Blood Services about three years ago.

“Our children were grown and gone, and I felt inspired to do more,” he says.

“We live in a pretty special country, and I strongly believe in helping others and giving back to the community.”

Stephen volunteers at the donor centre and recruitment events several times a month.

“I enjoy meeting people,” he says. “I get to hand out snacks and talk up the importance of blood donation.”

About 10 months ago, Stephen and his wife became grandparents.

“Our granddaughter was born with a hole in her heart and will likely need surgery at some point. That gives me a little more inspiration to help out. It’s also a reminder that any one of us could suddenly need blood one day. So I think that anyone who can donate, should donate.”
