Full circle

I am both a recipient and a donor.

I was an RH positive baby born to an RH negative Mom in the late sixties. I was the third of three children. My sister was fine but both my brother before me and I had to have full blood transfusion shortly after we were born. I am only here today because someone donated blood to save me.

My parents told me the story of my birth when I was still quite young and I used to see the "Be a blood donor" commercials on TV. I thought it was a career. When people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I said "A blood donor".

I donated for the first time in my late teens but it wasn't until my late 20's, early 30's that I became a regular donor.

I am now in my mid 50's and have donated over 60 times.

I am so thankful that someone made a donation that saved my life and I am happy to continue the tradition.
