Multiple Myeloma Thriver

I just want to let everyone know how important blood donation is to me. I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, and it was 3rd stage and aggressive, but the first time I went to RVH Barrie my hemoglobin was 46 so i was admitted and given three transfusions the first week. This gave me the strength for the battle ahead.

During the first few months of chemo I needed more transfusions. One time when I needed a transfusion my type or match wasn't available in Ontario, so overnight, the blood was shipped in from another province (for me that wasn't any big deal). Can you imagine in a life or death situation having to wait for the blood? With that I thought to ask my family and friends to donate blood on my birthday and Christmas instead of gifting me something.

My sister had a mission to make 1000 people aware of how important it is to donate blood, so she made 1000 angels and handed them out in Toronto telling my story. Thank you to everyone who donates blood. You save so many lives.
